Wilderness Weekend 2021
$10.00
The annual Wilderness Weekend is coming up on the weekend of 14th of August Holdsworth Lodge, and we have some awesome tutors and workshops lined up. Rural doctors will be coming from around the country with experience in practicing medicine everywhere from the Antarctic to Africa to the Alps.
We have planned interactive workshops involving simulated mass casualty events, how to deal with an unresponsive person out in the bush, and how to do a hypothermia wrap or improvised carry – to name just a few. There will be a chance to hear from the tutors about their experiences, as well as some time to explore the Tararuas.
The ticket price includes food for the weekend, accommodation, and petrol vouchers for drivers. The lodge has functional bathrooms and a kitchen, but BYO sleeping bag and pillow.
We will be leaving Wellington on Friday night at 6pm (or earlier if timetables allow), from Wellington Station or the Hospital depending on where people are located. We will require a few drivers to carpool, so please specify if you can bring a car and how many people you can bring.
There are 4 tickets reserved for physiotherapy and RT students, with the other 13 beds available as first come, first served.
More beds will probably open up in a second release if reserved tickets are not taken or the tutors do not need accommodation, which will be announced on the relevant Facebook pages.
There is also a camping site available, which would require BYO tent, so feel free to get a group together! Contact William via parwi902@student.otago.ac.nz to organize this so the site can be booked.
